Under this year’s banner of ‘SMART Innovation’, welcome to the Hunter Central Coast Innovation Festival for 2012. This year the Central Coast will host many events, connecting the region’s leading businesses and innovators.

The Festival also coincides with the launch of the Central Coast Innovation Advisory Committee’s Innovation Plan for the region, on May 16 at the Central Coast Innovation Summit. The Central Coast has been recognised by Enterprise Connect as one of ten Australian designated Innovative Regions Centres. The focus is on facilitating innovation through various means. Providing access to professional expertise, connecting businesses in the region and working with Universities are key aspects of the program. Our close proximity to Sydney and the talent in our schools, TAFE and University and enterprises suggests the region has capable people for building an innovative regional culture.

The Central Coast Open Innovation Map (CCOIM) has developed out of close consultation with a number of stakeholders and four proposed programs for targeted development have been identified. The challenge for the Central Coast is to stop following and start leading. The CCOIM provides a good start and the upcoming Innovation Summit during the Festival is an excellent opportunity to put the Central Coast ahead as a region.

Central Coast EventsEnjoy this year’s Festival and I encourage people to visit the Festival website to view upcoming events and register your attendance for events of interest. I’d also like to thank all sponsors, especially those based on the Central Coast and the role of RDA Central Coast and RDA Hunter.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our various events during the Hunter Central Coast Innovation Festival in 2012.

Warm Regards
Dr Anton Kriz, Chair of the Central Coast Innovation Festival
